Ange Postecoglou was understandably annoyed by a number of things in the wake of Tottenham's FA Cup win against Burnley. The Friday night clash was the first game without Son Heung-min and Pape Matar Sarr and Spurs struggled significantly for fluidity until a Pedro Porro wondergoal sealed their spot in the fourth round.
The Lilywhites had numerous chances with Burnley sitting deep and defending their box admirably until their resolve was broken by a fierce 25-yard effort that flew into the top corner from Porro. With Tottenham already active in the January transfer window, the game was somewhat overshadowed by the departure of Eric Dier edging closer with Bayern Munich poised to sign the England international.
As a result, it seemed as though that was the reason the 29-year-old was left out of the matchday squad to face Burnley, however Postecoglou admitted his absence was due to injury. The Tottenham boss was then pushed further on the subject with the question of a transfer to Bayern being referenced directly.
«Separate issue mate but don't question my integrity,» Postecoglou angrily replied. «When I say he's injured, he's injured. He didn't train yesterday. I can get Vision [Spurs' training system footage] for you or you can ask him. It's got nothing to do with anything else.»
Postecoglou added: «When you ask me whether he's injured, he's injured. I didn't make that up. If he wasn't injured I'd say he wasn't selected. It's easy for me to say. He's injured and in terms of anything else that's happening, not on my radar. Not that I've heard of. If there is something I'm sure I'll hear of it, but fair to say in the last 24 hours we've been focusing on the game and the guys that are available.»
