Ange Postecoglou has seen injuries and absences due to international commitments decide much of his starting XI to face Manchester United on Sunday. Club captain Son Heung-min is joined by Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma as players representing their country's at the Asia Cup and Africa Cup of Nations, respectively.
Alongside those three key players missing the next few weeks, Postecoglou has a plethora of options unavailable due to injury.James Maddison and Manor Solomon are two that remain absent although a return for both is close while Micky van de Ven was named in a matchday squad for the first time in nearly two months last week.
However the bad news seems to be outweighing any positives with Cristian Romero picking up a hamstring injury in late December with two players suffering the same fate in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Burnley. «From the last game, Ben Davies came off with a hamstring issue. Probably looking for a month or so for him out,» the Spurs boss revealed when asked for the latest team news on Friday.
"Gio Lo Celso similarly [to Davies' injury] — though harder to diagnose where he's at at the moment. We'll send him for further tests on Monday to see exactly what the issue is. He'll miss this weekend."
Both Davies and Lo Celso have been extremely important to Postecoglou over the last few months and though their absence is a blow, the two vacant spots in the squad appear to have already been filled.
Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have both already been signed by the Lilywhites in the January transfer window and are expected to go straight into the squad heading to Old Trafford.
