Legendary musician taken aback by 'stupid question' after phone call from The Beatles

There's not many people in music who have enjoyed a more legendary career than Graham Gouldman.

The 77-year-old first showed the world his incredible song writing talent when he penned For Your Love for The Yardbirds in 1965. Graham was aged just 18 at the time and he has remained at the top ever since, as he went on to form the iconic band, 10cc.

It has been 50 years since the band released their debut album and they have embarked on a tour to mark the milestone. The tour arrives at the Philharmonic Hall on March 12 - and Graham told the ECHO it's always special to come to Merseyside as The Beatles were the driving force that inspired him to pursue a career in music.

He said: "Liverpool has got a special place in my heart for obvious reasons and it's always a pleasure to come back. In the original 10cc, we all had our different influences but one of our common influences was a love for The Beatles.

"Liverpool is special because without The Beatles, there would be no 10cc." One of 10cc's first ever gigs was in Liverpool in 1973 as part of an incredible line-up when they were supported by Queen - and Graham said he always loves the welcome you get from a Merseyside crowd.

He said: "As you get further north, audiences get a bit more demonstrative. London audiences tend to be a bit more 'show us what you've got', whereas in the north we get a bit more love immediately.

"We always win the audiences over anyway so it doesn't matter. You're going to be ours anyway." Graham has been inducted into the songwriter's hall of fame and has crossed paths with some of the
