Leroy Sane admits delaying Bayern Munich contract talks amid Liverpool transfer speculation

Leroy Sane has admitted he is stalling talks with Bayern Munich regarding his future.

The Germany international, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, is out of contract in 2025 with the Bavarians keen for him to agree to an extension.

Set to turn 28 in January, the forward has enjoyed an explosive start to the season in Germany. He has returned nine goals and seven assists from 18 appearances, and is already well on course to beat his highest-scoring season to date - 16 goals for Man City in 2018/19.

Such form has led to Sane being linked with a return to the Premier League. The Mirror reported last month that Liverpool were willing to make the German their club-record signing and had identified him as their first-choice target to replace Mohamed Salah, should the Egyptian depart from Saudi Arabia at the end of the season. Meanwhile, he has also been linked with a return to Man City.

The forward was asked about his future while away with Germany during the November international break. And while he insisted he is currently happy at Bayern, he also admitted he has no intention of making a decision on his future until the end of the season - at which point he will be entering the final year of his contract.

“I haven’t given it any thought,” he told reporters. “The club wants to have discussions but at the moment I want to concentrate on the season. Bayern will be my first point of contract, everything else will take care of itself.

“I am taking on more and more responsibility, on and off the pitch. I really like the role and position at the moment.
