Liverpool have another date circled in their preseason. The club announced a friendly against LaLiga side Betis as part of a mini-tour of the United States this summer. The Reds return to the US for the first time in five years, with the aim of preparing the squad for the new season - one which they will head into with a new manager at the helm.
The Reds kickstart their US tour against Betis at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday 26 July with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT / 4:30 p.m. PDT.
Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón, said, “There’ no doubt this is a particularly exciting game for us for several reasons. Firstly, because it will give us the chance to gauge our level against one of the top teams in the world but also because playing Liverpool brings back so many memories of our debut in the Champions League and the great atmosphere we encountered both at the Benito Villamarín and Anfield. We are clubs with similar values and both boast a large fanbase - supporters who feel passionately about their teams. It’s wonderful that we will be meeting again in Pittsburgh”.
This will be Liverpool’s fourth encounter with the Seville-based outfit. The two teams first came face to face in the semi-final of the IV Trofeo Ciudad de Marbella on 14 August 1982. Wearing their iconic Crown Paints kit, Liverpool beat the Verdiblancos 0-2 at Estadio Municipal de Marbella with goals from Kenny Dalglish and David Hodgson. Málaga would later deny Paisley’s team the trophy, winning the shootout 4-2 after the final ended 1-1 (Fer Rodríguez ‘7 and Alan Kennedy ‘67).
