Liverpool face anxious injury wait as Arsenal's title rivals left with 'problems' after cup defeat
Darwin Nunez had to pull out of his shift with Uruguay because he picked up a hamstring problem during Liverpool's thrilling but losing battle against Manchester United.
It leaves Arsenal's title rivals with an anxious wait to fully understand the extent of the injury, but the international break does give the forward plenty of recovery time it's thought he could be fit enough to play against Brighton and Hove Albion later this month.
Recently, Nunez has come back from a similar injury and played for a whopping 120 minutes in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp talked about the variety of injuries troubling his squad after the match on BBC, saying: «Now, the boys go on international duty, they have to recover. We hope they come back healthy.
»We had some problems. Lucho (Luis Diaz) felt his groin, Darwin his hamstring, hopefully it is not. And Cody Gakpo has twisted his ankle I think. I didn't see it back, so we have to see."
Nunez's absence is seen as just a safety measure, and Liverpool are hopeful he'll be fit for the important match against Brighton in the Premier League. This game gives Liverpool the chance to move to the top of the table before Arsenal play Manchester City later that day.
Nunez, who has been on fire with nine goals for Liverpool in 2024, will now miss Uruguay's friendly match with Senegal in France on March 26 and an exhibition game with Basque in Spain three days earlier.
