Liverpool grabbed a solid point at Anfield after being held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester City.

After weathering the early City storm, Liverpool fell behind on 23 minutes as Kevin De Bruyne's low corner was steered in by John Stones at the front post. However, it was a different story after the break when Alexis Mac Allister converted a spot-kick following a foul on Darwin Nunez by Ederson.

Luis Diaz squandered a couple of good opportunities, with the likes of Jarell Quansah and Mac Allister also missing opportunities to take the lead. The Reds were almost undone late on by a Jeremy Doku strike, but the post came to the rescue to seal a point for both teams.

Two of the opening three games of the next round of Premier League fixtures are likely to pose the Reds some problems. Brighton are inconsistent but have the potential to threaten, while it is always a potential banana skin facing United.

After that, Liverpool will hope they can pick up a good amount of points, but cup commitments could make a trip to Fulham trickier than it initially seems on paper.
