Dominic Matteo has explained why Liverpool should replace Jurgen Klopp with Ange Postecoglou instead of Ruben Amorim. The Sporting CP manager has recently emerged as the favourite for the Liverpool job, but the former Reds defender believes the Tottenham Hotspur boss would be better suited at Anfield.
According to Sky Sports, Amorim has reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool. The report states that the 39-year-old has discussed a three-year contract with the Merseyside outfit after Klopp announced his decision to leave his post at the end of the season.
Sky Sports add that Amorim, who has been compared to Jose Mourinho in the past, has an exit clause in his contract which allows him to leave the Estádio José Alvalade this summer. The Portuguese tactician has also been heavily linked with moves to Chelsea and Bayern Munich lately.
While numerous big clubs are said to be chasing Amorim's signature, Matteo believes Postecoglou would be better suited at Liverpool. Speaking to William Hill, the 49-year-old said: «In terms of who replaces Jurgen Klopp, it has to be Ange Postecoglou at Spurs for me.
»He plays the right style of football which would be suited at Liverpool and I don’t think the nature of the job would get to him. I’ve been impressed with his first season at Spurs – the way he deals with the media and the way his team plays on the front foot is admirable.
Matteo added: «He seems to be an excellent man-manager which is needed at this high level of the game – particularly at a club like Liverpool – plus he can deal with the pressure and has won silverware.
