Ruben Amorim breaks silence on Liverpool manager 'agreement' as Sporting boss makes one thing clear
Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim has quashed rumours of a pre-arranged deal to take over at Liverpool.
The Portuguese is now the favourite to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp this summer. he shot to the top of the list after former Anfield midfielder Xabi Alonso declared he was staying with Bundesliga shock troops Bayer Leverkusen next season, with the Spaniard one win from claiming the club's first ever league title, sitting 16 points clear at the top if the table.
But Amorim has his own title race to worry about. Sporting are four points clear of city rivals Benfica and Amorim made it clear that's his priority rather than negotiating with the Reds, after ky germany had claimed he had reached an agreement "in principle" to take over at Liverpool: "No interview and no agreement," Amorim insisted "This is the last time I am going to talk about my future.The only thing we all want here is to be champions with Sporting, nothing will change."
He further clarified, "I'm the Sporting coach and there was no interview or agreement with any club. I'm just focused, as always, on representing my club."
Klopp's departure at season's end has sparked a flurry of conjecture regarding his successor, with Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi among those mentioned. Amorim, who has been steering Sporting towards another league title since his move from Braga in 2020, remains committed to his current role.
