Liverpool chippies have confidently declared they offer some of the best food in the country despite a recent award snub.
The National Fish & Chip Awards announced its nominations for 2024 with a glaringly obvious problem - there was no mention of Merseyside's venues.
Categories included Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year, Restaurant of the Year and Takeaway of the Year and more but despite the list of possibilities Merseyside's award-winning venues will have to wait until next year for a chance at glory.

Liverpool has made a name for itself by delivering some of the tastiest fish and chips around. Yanni's in the city centre has a wealth of accolades under its belt including the Good Food Award Gold Seal, a well-deserved title for being a staple of the takeaway scene for close to a decade.
On the topic of the recent snub, it didn't bother Yanni's too much, with owner Sandra Lawton telling the ECHO: "We don't mind. We know we sell some of the best food around and people love it. We have awards already and we love what we do." Yanni's has queues out the door most lunchtimes thanks to its golden fish and massive selection of classic chippie favourites.
Also blissfully unbothered is Parkgate Fish and Chips who remain thrilled with their Good Food Awards Blue Ribbon, which is given to those with high customer ratings or votes. Helen Cheng from Parkgate told the ECHO they have a unique selling point in which their customers come back for more.
Helen said: "We serve out award-winning chips every day. We are one of the few fish and chip shops that still pin bone and fillet our fresh fish delivered daily
