Mauricio Pochettino has been so near but yet so far away from what could have been a really good start to life at Chelsea. In his time at the club so far, he has reached a cup semi-final, beaten Tottenham away from home 4-1, drawn to Arsenal (being 2-0 up), held Liverpool and taken points off Manchester City. Yet things are far from perfect.
Without his first-choice wing-back combo the Blues have stutted. The midfield has been full of players covering for each other rather than truly gelling at times and a talented attack has remained inconsistent.
Injuries have plagued the squad, leaving arguably the most impactful players in each position across the field sidelined for some of if not all of the games so far and the lack of experience has told.Yet, 21 games in and there are enough green shoots to be really quite positive about.
Progress from last season has undoubtedly been made, though just how much of an achievement that is remains a subject of debate.
