It’s all change at Manchester United at the moment with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS getting to work… and there’s plenty for them to do.
We’re in the January transfer window and there are a lot of question marks over a number of players in Erik ten Hag’s squad right now.
So, who should Manchester United keep and who should they sell in what remains of the January transfer window, or in the summer?
This is someone who I’ve been critical of, but this is not a player who needs to be sold, which might surprise people. His standard has just not been good enough, but it is early days.
I remember the early days of David de Gea, I certainly don’t think they were this bad. There are more months left in the season and I don’t think they’ll sell him in the summer.
But, if he keeps making mistakes then big clubs are ruthless and he would have to be sold.
Verdict: KEEP (for now)
He was very close to a move to West Ham in the summer, but stayed and did reasonably well until he got injured.
I wouldn’t be doing anything in January, unless a big offer came in, but in the summer when you look at his career at Manchester United and his age profile and wanting to move forward as a club over the next three years, I think that’s a little too much for Maguire.
I would move him on in the summer.
Verdict: SELL
There was talk of him going to Saudi Arabia in January to raise some money. I was dead against that, but as we go into the summer it is one where we have to take emotion out of it and ask if Varane is going to be part of a three-year project at his age and injury issues.
