Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has agreed with club legend Ian Wright that the Gunners cannot afford to switch off during the last knockings of matches.
Mikel Arteta's men welcomed Wolves to the Emirates on Saturday and after racing into a 2-0 lead early on, seemed to take their foot off the gas. Arsenal managed to hold on, but not before an anxious end that saw Gary O'Neil's men pull one back via Matheus Cunha late on to increase tension.
The scoreline flattered Wolves, with the Gunners spurning a number of chances over the course of the game that could have seen them out of sight long before the end. Odegaard was on the scoresheet for Arsenal and discussed the manner of the victory at full-time.
“We started so strong again," the Norwegian playmaker explained. "The first half was brilliant. We scored two good goals and dominated everything."
Reflecting on the way Wolves regained a foothold in the game, Odegaard added: "We let them in a little bit with the goal, but that’s football. I guess we have to learn from that. We know in the Premier League that you can never switch off. Today was a good example of that. We have to make sure we do even better next time we go 2-0 up.2
The comments may ease the nerves of Wright, who conceded he was concerned by the way the game ended from Arsenal's perspective. "Second half it’s fair to say it was a bit backs to the wall, the work was done in the first half," he told Premier League Productions.
