After two full campaigns in the south of France, Mattéo Guendouzi is now on the verge of leaving Marseille. According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio have now reached an agreement over a transfer fee with Les Phocéens, with only personal terms now left to iron out.
The former Arsenal man has fallen down the midfield pecking order in the wake of Spanish head coach Marcelino’s arrival, and was said to be open to the prospect of a move to other side of the Alps. He had already lost his spot as a starter under Igor Tudor last year, having been one of Jorge Sampaoli’s key men in his first campaign back in Ligue 1 the previous year.
The 24-year-old will move to the Italian capital for a base fee of €13m, to which €5m in bonuses which can reasonably be reached, according to Di Marzio. Once an agreement has been found with the French international’s representatives over his salary, Guendouzi will fly out to Italy to undergo his medical.
