Mauricio Pochettino left with same Chelsea problem despite £95m double transfer deal

No player has been flagged offside more times in the Premier League than Nicolas Jackson this season.

The Chelsea striker, who scored his 11th goal of the campaign in all competitions against Brentford at the weekend, has been given offside a staggering 21 times this term. The jury is still very much out on Jackson despite a respectable return in his debut season in England.

Jackson was signed from Villarreal last summer for around £30million after his release clause was triggered. Nobody was expecting the 22-year-old to be the first-choice in the centre-forward position for Chelsea following the arrival of Christopher Nkunku, too, but the Frenchman's injury woes have put an over-reliance on Jackson this season.

The Senegal international has played just shy of 2,500 minutes in all competitions for the Blues this season and that is after missing a month of club football as he represented his country at the Africa Cup of Nations. He is someone Mauricio Pochettino massively trusts and when you hear the head coach speak about his striker, there is a clear admiration for his talents.

«Nico is 22-years-old, he has arrived from a different country and everyone has put responsibility on him to score goals,» Pochettino said last week. «For me, he is doing fantastic.

»I really appreciate his effort. He is very tough and plays football with maturity in the way that he accepts and deals with the pressure. You can see a player who fights, runs and wants the ball even when he has asked for the ball and made a mistake.
