Mauricio Pochettino is unlikely to make wholesale changes to his Chelsea starting XI for this afternoon's Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. The Blues are unbeaten in their last three games after beating Aston Villa and Crystal Palace before securing an unlikely point against Manchester City, with all of those coming away from Stamford Bridge.
Prior to that run, Pochettino's side were beaten convincingly by both Wolves and their upcoming opponents Liverpool. However, Chelsea appear to have struck the perfect balance all across the pitch recently with Pochettino making just three changes to his starting XI over the last few weeks, with two of those enforced through injury.
Therefore it was hardly a surprise to learn Pochettino's verdict on the players he will be selecting to represent Chelsea at Wembley. «Yes, yes, yes. 99 per cent, the team is in my head,» he revealed in his Friday press conference when asked if he had decided which of his goalkeepers would start.
On whether or not the squad knew the starting XI, he added: «Not yet. Not yet because always connection, communication, you know? Anything can happen. I prefer tomorrow [Saturday], or maybe after tomorrow.» Given his importance to Chelsea, Cole Palmer can certainly be considered the first name on the team sheet with the likes of Malo Gusto, Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi close behind.
Ahead of the game, several Chelsea players have posted messages promoting the huge fixture set to get underway at 3:30pm. Given the magnitude of the game, every player in Blue will want to participate but only 20 players will have the privilege and it looks as though some of those may have already been confirmed.
