Nico Schulz finally not joining Sheffield Wednesday due to domestic violence investigation

After several weeks training with the team, Championship side Sheffield Wednesday will not be signing former Borussia Dortmund player Nico Schulz. A statement from the team's official supporters' group put the brakes on the former German international's move due to his investigation for gender-based violence.

It should be remembered that the German player was released by Borussia Dortmund a few months ago after a whole season without playing for the club due to his former partner's accusation. After a spell playing for modest Oberliga side Baumholder, the left winger was without a club and saw a move to English football as an excellent opportunity to revive his career.

Schulz had to go to court in February to answer three allegations of assault by his ex-partner, all of which took place in 2020. The former Germany international was ordered to donate 150,000 euros to five charities over a three-month period after his former partner repeatedly refused to testify, 'The Guardian' reported.

Against this background, the Sheffield Wednesday women's supporters' group sent an open letter to manager Danny Rohl asking him not to sign the player. The German coach ruled out after the match against Plymouth that he would go ahead with the move.

"Normally I don't talk after a game about a player who is not part of the team, but I have made a decision. I always take a full view of the situation before I sign any player and this time it will be no different. I am very satisfied with the squad and Kristian Pedersen will be back from injury soon. Nico Schulz will not be joining the team," explained Rohl on Tuesday.
