The saga for the 42-year-old might be over for now but he reportedly has a release clause that activates in 2025. Both Italian outlet Calciomercato and journalist Fabrizio Romano state that Real Madrid could make an approach as a result, should Carlo Ancelotti activate his break clause in 15 months’ time. Sport suggests that a Madrid approach would be hard for Alonso to turn down given his previous connection with club president Florentino Perez while a player at Los Blancos. Alonso’s current contract at Leverkusen runs out in 2026.
