Nicolas Tagliafico has denied reports that he is angry with Lyon for not allowing Manchester United to sign him on loan.
The 31-year-old branded the speculation as “fake news” amid United’s search for an emergency left-back. The Reds have been in talks with Chelsea regarding a loan deal for Marc Cucurella, but have now switched their focus to Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham.
Tagliafico was one name linked with a possible switch having worked under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. The United boss met with Tagliafico ahead of the club’s friendly with Lyon this summer, saying the pair still have a “really good relationship.”
Reports in France had suggested Argentina World Cup winner Tagliafico was frustrated that his club did not allow United to speak to him, claiming he was previously also interested in a return to former club Ajax.

The player himself has taken to social media to denounce those rumours. United are searching for a left-back due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Meanwhile, Alvaro Fernandez - the only fit senior left-back at the club - is likely to leave United before Friday’s transfer deadline. Diogo Dalot filled in at left-back in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
However, Ten Hag is seemingly not satisfied with this as a temporary solution to the left-back problem and is deciding to dip into the market. United are targeting a loan deal to ensure they stay within Financial Fair Play rules.
They have until 11pm on Friday to complete a deal, with the Reds also in talks for Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat regarding a loan deal.
