The Tottenham Hotspur boss told football.london about his transfer plans for the centre of the defence as one youngster prepares to join
Ange Postecoglou has told football.london that Tottenham are working on adding to his main centre-back options before the season starts as the club also finalise the signing of Ashley Phillips as a young defender for the future.
Spurs conceded 63 Premier League goals last season and in Postecoglou's first game in charge on Monday night in Australia, those issues were still present with the same defenders in place. While the new head coach's attacking style was already on show with Tottenham having 30 shots on goal in their friendly against West Ham in Perth's Optus Stadium, the Hammers, with just four shots, were able to win 3-2.
The north London club are looking to sign two new senior centre-backs this summer and have held talks with Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen about bringing in Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba respectively, and it has not been ruled out that they could yet move for both players depending on departures from Postecoglou's squad. Tottenham will listen to offers for Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga this summer.
Spurs also have a strong interest in Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo as well as a long-standing admiration for Crystal Palace defenders Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen. The club have also held discussions with Barcelona over bringing back Clement Lenglet as one defensive option, following his loan spell last season.
When football.london asked Postecoglou whether he wanted new centre-back options to arrive before the start of the Premier League season, he admitted that it was a process that had been a while in the making.
