Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham have been dealt another devastating blow on the injury front following the news that Rodrigo Bentancur faces more time in the treatment room. Only making his comeback from a long-term injury last month and handed his first Tottenham start since February in Sunday's 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa, the Uruguayan exited the pitch on 32 minutes following a late Matty Cash tackle and as a result has picked up an ankle ligament injury.
It was a challenge that left the 26-year-old and everyone connected with Spurs extremely unhappy with the Villa man. After Bentancur had gone to ground for the second time after initially getting back up to try and play on, Giovani Lo Celso, Emerson Royal and Bryan Gil all headed towards Cash to make their feelings known over the tackle.
Left fearing the worst over Bentancur after spending nine months on the sidelines recovering from the ACL injury he sustained at Leicester City, news broke on Tuesday evening that Tottenham's No.30 now faces another two-and-a-half months out of action. football.london understands that scans on the injury have shown that the tackle resulted in the tearing of a ligament in his ankle, thus meaning he is not expected to return until the middle of February and could miss 13 games in the process.
The injury blow has come at the worst possible time for Tottenham, who have a host of players out through injury at present and also Cristian Romero through suspension. Losing Ryan Sessegnon, Alfie Whiteman, Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon to injury earlier in the campaign, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr and Ashley Phillips have also picked up injuries in recent weeks.
