Romelu Lukaku breaks silence on Chelsea transfer exit as Roma loan move imminent
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku appears to have confirmed his loan move to AS Roma by breaking his silence over his future in an interview with Belgian media.
It comes as the forward looks set for yet another season away from Stamford Bridge, despite their hopes of moving him on for a permanent deal. Lukaku had joined for a £97.5million fee in 2021, with hopes of adding the goal scoring prowess that was missing from the side.
A mixture of fitness concerns and an unsanctioned interview with Sky Italia saw relationships between the Belgian international and the management team strained. That was evident last summer as he was sent out on loan to Inter Milan for the campaign, where he was in and out of the side, ending it with a Champions League final defeat.
There were hopes of a permanent switch over the summer, however talks with Inter broke down and a deal to join the Saudi Pro League was rejected by the player. The 30-year-old was linked with Juventus, though that was objected by fans and they have also seemingly backed out.
With less than a week of the summer market left, the Blues have since decided to sanction a loan move to ensure that Lukaku is out of the squad for the season. Talks have progressed with AS Roma that would see Lukaku reunite with Jose Mourinho, who signed him for Manchester United years ago.

With discussions continuing, the striker appears to have broken his silence on a move and confirms that he is set to join Roma in the coming days. Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws on his son's match in a youth tournament, he said: «I’m nervous [about his son’s debut], I’m going to Rome tomorrow to sign.»
