Unlike the summer signings of this season, Gakpo wasn't afforded the opportunity to find his feet during pre-season and was immediately thrust into Jurgen Klopp's side after signing from PSV Eindhoven on the opening day of the January transfer window.
Typically a left-sided attacker, the 24-year-old was moved central and fired seven goals in 21 Premier League appearances, adding three assists. Gakpo particularly caught the eye with a scintillating display against long-standing suitors Manchester United as Erik ten Hag's side were on the receiving end of a 7-0 thrashing in March.
Fast forward to August, Gakpo has arguably been a victim of Liverpool's transfer business and hesitancy to proactively sign midfielders.
