The search for the next Liverpool manager is underway, with Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim reportedly in the running to take over at Anfield in the summer.
After nine successful years on Merseyside, Jurgen Klopp has called an end to his time as Liverpool manager, with the German stepping back at the end of the season. Klopp has already won a trophy in his final season with the Reds, but the Premier League and Europa League both remain in sight.
Xabi Alonso appears to be the frontrunner for the vacancy, but Liverpool will face competition for their former midfielder, with both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich reportedly also interested. So, if Liverpool were to appoint Amorim as manager, how successful would he be? We used Football Manager 2024 to simulate his debut season and find out.
Amorim's first order of business was to adjust his squad in the summer transfer window, and some shock decisions were made. Goncalo Inacio followed Amorim from Lisbon to Merseyside, while the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Samuele Ricci, Eric Garcia and Evan Fergurson were all added to the squad.
But, the biggest surprise came in the outgoings as Alexis Mac Allister was sold, with the Argentine moving to Real Madrid for £74million. Youngsters Alexis Mac Allister, Tyler Morton and Kaide Gordon were also sold on permanent deals for a combined fee of £68million.
