Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has revealed Jurgen Klopp gave him some words of advice before his masterclass display against LASK.
The Dutchman showed signs of finding his feet during his first start for the Reds in Thursday’s 3-1 Europa League win in Austria.
Klopp’s side came from behind thanks to second-half goals from Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, to make the perfect start to their European campaign.
Gravenberch was handed his opportunity at the Raiffeisen Arena and repaid the German's faith in him with a fine display before being withdrawn late on with cramp.
He even provided the assist for Diaz's 63rd minute strike, after whipping in a low cross from the right flank into the path of the Colombian.
So impressive was his performance that highlights of his 74 minutes on the pitch have gone viral, leaving Liverpool fans excited as to what the former Ajax academy graduate can bring to the club.
Klopp also heaped praise on his summer signing, describing the performance as ‘super’ before adding: «He was decisive for us.»
After the final whistle, the 21-year-old lifted the lid on his manager’s influence leading into the game.
«Yesterday after training he came to me and said feel free. You can do whatever you want,» Gravenberch told TNT Sports.
«Of course you have to do your things, but he just said feel free and show yourself and the Ryan you are.»
