Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee has drawn parallels between his club's aspirations and Luton Town's remarkable journey to the top flight as the Welsh side sets its sights on Premier League glory.
The 29-year-old played a pivotal role in the Red Dragons' successive promotions, with their latest 6-0 triumph over Forest Green Rovers securing a spot in League One for the first time since the 2004-05 season. This achievement marks a historic moment for the 159-year-old club, which has been on an upward trajectory since actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took the reins in 2021.
Under Phil Parkinson's management, Wrexham have clinched League One football with two games to spare, joining Stockport County in ascending from the National League. The question now is whether Wrexham can maintain their momentum in the third tier or if they'll encounter stiffer resistance.
Co-owner Reynolds has been transparent about his lofty ambitions, declaring last year: «In 10 years, the plan has and always will be the Premier League. If it's theoretically possible to go from the fifth tier to the Premier League, why wouldn't we try?»
Lee believes that his current club can mimic Luton's rise from non-league to the Premier League if they follow the Hatters' blueprint. He told The Athletic: «Look at my old club, Luton. When I left, I said I wanted a project similar to Luton. I wanted to go up the leagues, and Wrexham fitted the bill.
»Of course, you can't get ahead of yourself. And I'm not saying we will be in the Premier League any time soon. But I am saying we have all the foundations to be a successful club.
