Shakira sends Arsenal surprise message following crucial Brentford victory
Music superstar Shakira has sent Arsenal a surprising message via social media after they defeated Brentford 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners clinched a vital victory over the Bees in a Premier League clash at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The north Londoners had thought they took the lead in the first half when Leandro Trossard poked the ball into the back of the net from close range. However, VAR ruled that the Belgian international was offside in the build-up, with the game staying scoreless until the final quarter of an hour.
Eventually, Mikel Arteta’s side broke the deadlock when substitute Kai Havertz netted a header in the dying embers of the game. The German’s finish meant that Arsenal went top of the table, having watched fellow title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool play out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the day.
It was just the second time Havertz has netted for Arsenal since signing from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, prompting the travelling fans to sing a chant about him in the tune of 'Waka Waka', a song sung by Colombian popstar Shakira back in 2010. The 46-year-old then took to Instagram, posting a video of the chant, which was captioned: «Waka wake @arsenal style.»
