Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino were dealt one of their most embarrassing results of the season after a team full of Liverpool youngsters from the academy pulled off a late winner in the Carabao Cup final. Having gone tit-for-tat throughout much of normal time, the Blues failed to take advantage of their opponents' inexperience in extra time, conceding a late Virgil van Dijk header.
Although Pochettino was also without key players and can point towards an entire back four missing the clash through injury, Jurgen Klopp had just as much reason to vent over his fitness problems. The Reds were lacking a handful of vital first team players that have, crucially, been present this season as opposed to Chelsea's largely absent bunch for most of the campaign.
The Argentine head coach was dealt a final blow before the game as Thiago Silva was ruled out of the match. Chelsea must now try and overcome their final disappointment, as they look to keep up the hunt for silverware with an FA Cup fifth round meeting with Liverpool on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.
