Dejan Kulusevski admitted he «copied a little» one of Ange Postecoglou's speeches when asked to deliver an unexpected team talk to his Sweden team-mates.
The 23-year-old Swede was asked by his new national coach Jon Dahl Tomasson to speak to the team ahead of their home friendly against Albania on Monday night, as they looked to get back to winning ways following a heavy 5-2 defeat in Portugal on Thursday evening.
Postecoglou's team talks are well known for the way he ties in what happens in life to emphasise his points and Kulusevski is among the many Tottenham players who have praised them. So when he suddenly had to think up something to say to the Sweden team there was only one place his mind turned to as he delivered the speech in English.
"[Tomasson] took me aside for a second and asked if I could talk and I said I'll solve it," Kulusevski told Swedish football media outlet Fotbollskanalen. «Then I had to walk around thinking what to say, but it was fun. Maybe I'll have to take it again next time.
»I get inspiration from everything. The speech was from my coach in Tottenham. He is strong on it so I copied a little because I believe in what he says. I prepared that we have to play as a family because a family protects each other."
The rousing team talk did the trick as Sweden won the game with the Spurs attacker providing an inch-perfect cross for Gustaf Nilsson to head home the only goal of the match. The speech had left a mark with his team-mates and his new manager.
