Sir Dave Brailsford quits Ineos Grenadiers cycling role during Manchester United work
Sir Dave Brailsford has left his role as team principal of the Ineos Grenadiers cycling team as he continues to spend time focusing on Manchester United.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Brailsford told riders and staff at the team's winter training in Majorca that he would be stepping down. He was removed as team principal from the website on Friday.
Brailsford oversaw a generation of success at Ineos Grenadiers, having co-founded the team in 2009 with Sky, but he has become a peripheral figure in recent years, having taken on a wider role in Sir Jim Ratcliffe's sporting empire.
That empire has expanded with a minority stake in United and Brailsford, who is the head of sport at Ineos, will have a seat on the football board and is spending plenty of time at Old Trafford and Carrington as he conducts a review of the club's football operations. He is expected to remain a prominent figure at the club, even if a new sporting director is appointed.

Brailsford has attended every United fixture since confirmation of the Ineos deal to acquire a stake in the club arrived on Christmas Eve and he has been a regular at the training ground, meeting staff to review the performance of the football side of the business.
The 59-year-old launched Team Sky in 2010 and they won the first Tour de France with Sir Bradley Wiggins two years later. In total, Team Sky won seven of the eight Tour de France titles between 2012 and 2019 and helped to generate a cycling boom in the UK.
