Following their 1-0 win against Cape Town City in December, Stellenbosch FC will look to complete a DStv Premiership double over Eric Tinkler’s side this week, with the Western Cape outfits set to do battle at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Despite going into the game on the back of two consecutive draws in the DStv Premiership, Stellies remain one of the most in form teams in the league at the moment. Steve Barker’s charges are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run in South Africa’s top flight and last suffered defeat in September 2023, following a 3-1 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
As it stands, Stellenbosch occupy 5th position on the table while City trail Mamelodi Sundowns by 11 points in 2nd position.
Much like that of Stellenbosch, the Citizens are on a run of two consecutive stalemates following 1-1 results against Chippa United and SuperSport United respectively. Eric Tinkler and company have only managed to record one win in their last five outings and jotted down three draws and one defeat during this period.

“If we won, we could have created a small little gap between ourselves and them [SuperSport] and potentially Stellenbosch,” said a frustrated Tinkler following his side’s recent draw against SSU.
“I have to say something about the referee because I think it’s killing our game,” the former Bafana Bafana midfielder said.
“Week in, week out it’s the same thing. It’s becoming tiring. We need to make that change. People will start getting fed up.”
