Thierry Henry has expressed his concerns about Arsenal's struggle to convert chances under Mikel Arteta.
Henry isn't sure that signing new striker is the answer for his former club. That is despite strikers Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah only scoring 14 goals between them this season — Bukayo Saka netted twice in the 6-0 hammering against West Ham United at the weekend, with William Saliba, Gabriel, Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice also on the scoresheet.
However, with big challenges ahead in their quest for European glory, Henry remains worried about the team's finishing, despite some key moments of success. «I just think that… there was a massive discussion about 'does Arsenal need a number nine?'. What they needed to do is put the ball in the back of the net,» Henry said on CBS Sports Golazo.
«When Arsenal does put the ball in the back of the net it's 6-0. In every game it could have been the same — in the cup against Liverpool they didn't do it, they did it with a bit of help in the league from Liverpool — but when Arsenal are on point and put the ball in the back of the net, it doesn't matter who plays.
»Trossard will score, Declan Rice has been scoring, Gabriel has been scoring, so it doesn't really matter. If we turn our opportunities into goals, we are going to be — I think — a very difficult team to beat."
Arsenal's recent victory was their fourth consecutive win in the Premier League, achieved without the distraction of the Champions League. However, they face a challenging schedule ahead, with matches against Burnley and Newcastle sandwiching the round of 16. first leg against Porto. The second leg in March is surrounded by London derbies against Brentford and Chelsea.
