The Champions League quarter-finals get under way next week and there are one or two mouthwatering ties to look forward to. Manchester City take on Real Madrid in a clash of titans on Tuesday, while Arsenal face off against Bayern Munich.
It is a huge clash for the Gunners, who are in the last eight of Europe's elite knockout competition for the first time since 2010. However, recent history is not on their side.
In the last three matches between the two teams, Bayern have won by an aggregate socre of 15-3 — winning each encounter by the same 5-1 scoreline. When it comes to Champions League opponents, the Bavarian outfit are something of a bogey team for Arsenal.
This time around, Arsenal will also come up against some very familiar faces. Familiar faces who have had a huge rivalry with them in the past. Tottenham's all-time top scorer Harry Kane, who incidentally holds the record for the most goals in North London Derbies, will be gunning for them. As will former Spurs man Eric Dier, who signed for Bayern in January.
We are set for two incredible encounters between the two clubs. Arsenal host the first leg on Tuesday, April 9, with the return at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, April 17.
Despite the recent matches between the two sides, Thomas Muller does not envisage things being quite so straightforward for Bayern this time around. Bayern have all their hopes pinned on the Champions League, having fallen 13 points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the race for the Bundesliga title.
