Tottenham moved to within one point of fourth-placed Arsenal with a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on New Year's Eve. Goals from Pape Matar Sarr, Richarlison and Son Heung-Min sealed three points for Ange Postecoglou's side even though Spurs were far from their best.
It means that Tottenham enter 2024 within touching distance of their title rivals, just three points from top of the table Liverpool. Manchester City could go to the summit if they win their game in hand but that would still leave Spurs just four points behind.
Having dealt with a spate of injuries crippling the squad it has been a hugely impressive first six months in charge for Postecoglou and he once more had to battle the elements with further issues for Sarr and later on Alejo Veliz. Despite this his men were able to respond well to the disappointment of mid-week away at Brighton.
Now, with only three games to come in January, Tottenham have the chance to do business as well as resting players. Sarr will be out for most of the month — if not all of it and into February — if he is fit enough to go to the African Cup of Nations, whilst Yves Bissouma will also be out. Son will be absent too as he heads to the Asian Cup.
