A fair number of Tottenham fans were given a heart in the mouth moment by the club’s official app.
Following Spurs' 2-1 home win over Liverpool, the week so far has been dominated by the controversy that has surrounded it.
Ange Postecoglou’s side secured a stoppage time winner to keep their undefeated record this season and leapfrog the Reds into second in the Premier League.
The three points didn’t come without drama, though, with Luis Diaz’s opener incorrectly ruled offside, a decision the PGMOL have since apologised for, and released audio showing the blundered call.
That hasn’t quite satisfied either Liverpool nor Jurgen Klopp, with the club first releasing a statement, before Klopp had his say.
The German suggested that the right thing would be a replay, but acknowledged, ‘then everyone will ask for it’.
The public talk of a replay would have startled some Spurs fans, though, who got a rather hilariously-timed notification on their phone.
The Official Spurs + Stadium App, which has over half a million downloads, sent out an alert which read: “Our home league clash with Liverpool has been rescheduled.”
Given Spurs are only scheduled to play the Reds once more this season away at Anfield, the notification panicked supporters.
One social media user posted: «My heart was in my mouth.»
Another said: «I fell off my chair.»
A third added: «They knew EXACTLY what they were doing when wording that push notification.»
Though supporters will have quickly realised it was in fact a piece of news about the women’s team, whose clash against the Reds has been moved after it was selected for television.
