Two officials at the centre of the VAR storm in Tottenham’s win over Liverpool have been stood down for another round of Premier League fixtures.
VAR officials Darren England and Dan Cook were initially replaced for two games after Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly chalked off last Saturday but have now been banished for an extra round of fixtures.
Referees’ body PGMOL have come under increasing scrutiny following a host of wrong calls often leading to public apologies.
Diaz’s strike – which would have seen Liverpool take a 2-0 lead – was another contentious decision in a game the Reds went on to lose 2-1.
PGMOL announced they will conduct a full review into Saturday’s events after releasing a statement shortly after the game claiming ‘significant human error’ was the reason behind the decision to disallow Diaz’s goal.
Liverpool later responded saying «sporting integrity has been undermined» by the VAR mistake and asked for the referee's audio to be released to gain an understanding of why the decision was made.
The club also said they will 'explore the full range of options' available 'to find a suitable resolution.
England’s next assignment was to officiate Leicester City’s Championship clash with Preston on Wednesday but will now be replaced by Thomas Bramall.
