Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has bemoaned Kyle Walker’s injury - despite being handed a potential Champions League boost.
The Manchester City star was withdrawn just 20 minutes into England’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil on Saturday. The injury has seen Walker pull out of the Three Lions’ squad ahead of Tuesday’s game against Belgium.
He was replaced by City teammate Rico Lewis. Walker will undergo further tests to undergo the severity of the problem.
As it stands, he is now a doubt for this weekend’s key clash against Arsenal, as well as Man City’s Champions League quarter-final clash with Real Madrid. Despite his side potentially being handed a boost for that upcoming game, Brazilian star Vinicius Jr was not pleased at Walker leaving the pitch.
Speaking after his side’s win at Wembley, he said: “Ah, it’s all very sad. Every time a player leaves the pitch injured it’s very sad, not only for the player but for all of us who are there on the pitch.
“We want to play against the best, Walker, I always say, he’s the best defender I’ve ever faced and it’s always a very good duel. He respects me a lot and I respect him a lot. Each one defends their side with the greatest will in the world.”
Neither Walker nor those in the England camp know how long he will be out for. Gareth Southgate suggested it was difficult to put a definitive timeline on the Man City man.
He said: “We don’t know yet, he’s feeling something. He's not a player who’s been injured very often so he’s not quite certain what it is. So we just have to assess it over the next couple of days.”
