Virgil van Dijk lays out Liverpool blame for Manchester United defeat in blunt assessment

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says they only have themselves to blame as he vowed the Reds will give "everything" following Sunday's 4-3 defeat to Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp will not end his Reds tenure at Wembley Stadium as they were dumped out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage. Amad ended their quadruple with a late stoppage-time winner in extra-time, despite Liverpool leading twice during the 130-minute contest.

The Reds now see their players depart around the world for their respective international fixtures. But Van Dijk has made a pledge that they will continue fighting on the remaining fronts with a Premier League title-race and a Europa League quarter-final on the horizon.

On Instagram, he posted: "Only got ourselves to blame, especially after how good we have been so far this season."

"Time for internationals then we’re back to give it everything we have."

It was an enthralling cup tie between one of the most fiercely contested encounters in England. But it was Liverpool who found themselves behind after 10 minutes when Scott McTominay poked home from close-range.
