World Pokemon Day is an annual celebration of one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises.
Originating in 1996, it has since spawned into multiple sequels and several animated TV series. Pokemon is in the role playing genre of video games, where players collect different types of Pokemon, upgrade them and battle against other players in an immersive setting.
There have now been nine generations of Pokemon spanning over twenty years. The animated TV series has also been running for a similar amount of time. In 2021, thousands of people headed to Sefton Park to play the Pokemon Go mobile game.
