The Reds were edged out in a quarter-final classic at Old Trafford, despite having twice led at the home of their arch-rivals.
Scott McTominay scored a 10th-minute opener before the Reds responded at the end of the first half through Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah. After failing to make their second-half superiority count though, United levelled late on through to Anthony to take the game to extra time.
