Alexis Mac Allister sent a pointed message to Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero in the aftermath of Liverpool’s heartbreaking 2-1 defeat.
The Reds quickly found themselves reduced to 10 men, midway through the first half, after Curtis Jones was shown a red card for his challenge on Yves Bissouma. Despite being a man down, Luis Diaz looked to have put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead but was controversially ruled offside. Instead, it was Spurs who took the lead through Son Heung-min but Cody Gakpo succeeded in levelling the scores before the break.
There was plenty more drama to come, though, as Diogo Jota was given his second of two quick-fire yellow cards in the 69th minute to leave Liverpool fighting for a point with nine men. The team displayed excellent spirit and looked to have achieved their unlikely mission before Joel Matip fired in an own goal with just seconds remaining.
It was a game with plenty of talking points and led Mac Allister to clash with his Argentina team-mate Romero. The pair were part of the squad that won the World Cup last year and have plenty of respect for each other but there was no love between the two players on social media.

Posting on Instagram after the game, Romero wrote the caption: “This team has great spirit, great heart. always like this, all together.”
However, this prompted a response from Mac Allister in the comments, who aired his frustration at the officiating of the game: “Normal when you have 12 players.”
Romero hit back with a blunt reply: “Cry at home.”
