Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Jurgen Klopp has let himself down by suggesting that Liverpool’s defeat to Tottenham should be replayed.
The Reds manager made the comments in a press conference after his club had received an apology for a ‘serious error’ in the 2-1 defeat, where Luis Diaz’s opener was incorrectly ruled offside despite VAR intervention.
Official Darren England has been stood down for the headline-making blunder, and the refereeing association, the PGMOL, have released audio of the incident, prompting a statement from Liverpool.
After the match, Klopp seemed reasonably calm despite his team’s 19-game unbeaten streak being ended, but he didn’t say: «I've never seen a game like this with the most unfair circumstances.”
Now though, speaking ahead of a Europa League clash with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, the German coach added: „I think the only outcome should be a replay. That's how it is. The argument against that is then everyone will ask for it.“
Responding to those comments, Jordan told talkSPORT: “He needed to balance it up because he was brilliant after the game.
“He was controlled and thoughtful and recognised a mistake had been made, so he needed to balance that up because that was too much of a decent answer so he needed to come back with this ridiculous analysis.
“What happens with football people is they forget all the praise that you give to them but when you criticise them they remember it and don’t like that.
“If it’s put to him he’ll remind everyone how much he doesn’t like my opinions. I think he’s one of the best managers we’ve seen in English football in a very, very long time. I think he produces a wonderful football side, I think on the whole, the things he says are always
