Alfie Devine believes that his performance for Plymouth Argyle against Coventry City on Wednesday reassures him that he can make a big impact in the Championship. Starting the season in League One with Port Vale before stepping up a division in January after making the switch to Devon, Devine grabbed an assist on his debut for the Pilgrims in a 3-1 win over Cardiff City.
Only restricted to three appearances for Plymouth prior to the Coventry match as he was cup tied for two FA Cup fixtures against Leeds United, the Tottenham ace revealed that he has been «quite disappointed» with himself in his first three games for his new team. However, that all changed against Mark Robins' side on Wednesday as he had a key role to play in Morgan Whittaker's opener before teeing up Mickel Miller for their second of the evening.
In Plymouth Live's player ratings from the 2-2 draw, Devine came out with a score of seven out of ten. They wrote: «After a slightly disappointing start to his loan spell from Tottenham this was much better from the 19-year-old as he showed signs of starting to settle into Ian Foster's side as one of the two 'number 10s' along with Morgan Whittaker. Devine got on the ball more and when in possession his use of it was accurate and positive.»
Having not only had to adapt to playing as an attacking midfielder again after previously spending time in a slightly deeper role for Port Vale but also acclimatise to a new division, the youngster feels that he is getting used to the position and is now getting «a lot more comfortable» after his impressive Coventry showing.
