Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has opened up on the club's January transfer plans, with the window set to open in a little over five weeks time. Spurs have enjoyed a stellar start to the 2023/24 campaign, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, only two points behind league-leaders Manchester City.
But the north Londoners have been hit with a number of injuries in recent weeks, losing defender Micky van de Ven and James Maddison to respective fitness issues. That leaves the Lillywhites squad rather short, especially when you consider that Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will both be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in January whilst club captain Son Heung-min will also be at the Asian Cup.
When asked about plans for the winter window, Postecoglou replied: «I guess the challenge for us was they all came at once as it hasn't been staggered. In terms of January, the planning is well away from that. Johan [Lange] has come in and he's leading that in terms of all the background work.
»My involvement and my own sort of ramp up to it as we get closer to January and understanding exactly what our requirements are at the moment, although work has been done in the background with Johan leading it and he's brought in some people to help him in that area. We'll work with him when the time is right."
Lange started as the north London club's brand-new technical director earlier this month, with the former Aston Villa chief in charge of recruitment for Spurs. The 43-year-old's role will be somewhat similar to the one held by Fabio Paratici when he was the club's director of football.
