Chelsea's current crop have been the subject of a brutal rant from former Blue Frank Leboeuf after their latest humiliation at the hands of Liverpool.
It has already been a dire season for Mauricio Pochettino's side, but it slumped to a new low on Wednesday when Chelsea were on the wrong end of a 4-1 drubbing at Anfield. The Blues were convincingly beaten by a vastly superior Reds outfit, who scored two goals in either half to ensure Christopher Nkunku's strike was little more than a consolation.
Leboeuf has made clear he feels his old side are now made up of 'mid-table' players, despite the fact that under the watch of owner Todd Boehly, Chelsea have spent a staggering £1.4billion over the last four transfer windows. The Blues languish down in 10th in the table, having already lost nine games so far this term.
Nkunku is one of the few Chelsea players to have impressed when in action this season, though he hasn't had many opportunities due to a number of injury issues. But the former RB Leipzig talent is clearly the only one to have caught Lebouef's eye.
He claimed: "When Christopher Nkunku came on, I saw a different player. I saw a player who knows how to play internationally. The others don’t know. The others are mid-table players.
"I was insulted by a lady on social media last week because I was harsh on Chelsea. How can you be nice right now? What can you find about my former club to believe in something good? It’s awful, it’s appalling! Everything is wrong! Nothing is good."
Despite his appointment being greeted with optimism, Pochettino is now under pressure from a disgruntled Stamford Bridge faithful who expect more than what's currently being produced. The eye-watering transfer spend has only added to that pressure.
