Brentford manager Thomas Frank has issued an update on Ivan Toney ahead of the January transfer window. The England international will return to action in the New Year, when he has served his full suspension after breaching the FA's betting rules.
Toney recently changed agents as he plots the next step of his career with Chelsea and Arsenal both monitoring his situation at the Gtech Community Stadium. The 27-year-old's current deal expires in 2025 and an extension could increase his chance of staying in west London — but it is unclear whether Toney would be open to renewing his deal.
Arsenal and Chelsea are both in the market for a new striker, but amove to sign Toney looks more likely next summer rather than next month. football.london understands the England international is someone that has interested the Blues for a while now and a move for the Brentford striker could be considered.
Frank has now sent a clear message to both Chelsea and the Gunners ahead of the January transfer window as Toney edges closer to a return to action. Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace, Frank said: «Ivan is training very well, on and off the pitch, and looking forward to finally contributing to the team.
»I see at least the same determination and willpower to want to train well and be ready to play. Maybe a tiny bit more in terms of wanting to come back and be at his best.
«It's good, only positive. Am I desperate to keep him? Desperate is a big word.
