It has been revealed how much Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were awarded for their participation in UEFA competitions in the 2022/23 season. The Gunners featured in the Europa League, while the Blues and the Lilywhites rubbed shoulders with Europe's elite in the Champions League.
Arsenal were knocked out of the round of 16 by Sporting CP after losing 5-3 on penalties. In the Champions League, Real Madrid, who had stormed past Liverpool to get to the quarterfinals, swept Chelsea aside by winning 4-0 on aggregate.
Tottenham, however, failed to navigate past AC Milan in the round of 16. Manchester City, who won the Champions League in 2022/23, were unsurprisingly awarded more money than any other side.
As pointed out by football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Pep Guardiola's side racked in £134.9million. Meanwhile, Chelsea secured £95.9m, Liverpool received £84.3m and Spurs collected £65.7m.
For their efforts in the Europa League, Arsenal earned £25m and Manchester United pocketed £32.6m. Despite winning the Europa Conference League, West Ham accepted just £22.1m, the lowest of any Premier League club.
The prize money will have provided the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham a huge boost towards their efforts to operate within UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations. New rules allow clubs to incur losses of around £51.3m over three years, compared to the previous allowance of roughly £25.6m.
