Mikel Arteta has provided the latest on the fitness of his squad ahead of Arsenal's Premier League clash with Sheffield United on Monday night. The Gunners go into the game looking to extend a run of form that has seen them win six consecutive matches, scoring 25 goals in the process.
It still hasn't been enough to send them to the top of the Premier League, with Manchester City and Liverpool threatening a frightening pace. Arsenal's chances of overtaking the pair could be significantly bolstered by the return of several key players from injury.
In recent weeks they have been able to welcome back Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus into the matchday squad although the pair are yet to make an appearance following recoveries from groin and knee problems respectively. Jesus' return in particular will be welcomed by Arsenal and Arteta admitted that he is fit enough to start on Monday.
«He’s fit enough,» the Spaniard said. «How long he will last that’s very different. We didn’t want to take any risks. We need him fit and now we want to make sure we load him in the right way.»
Thomas Partey could well also join that group of recent returnees for the trip to Bramall Lane on Monday night. The Ghanaian has played just 15 minutes since October due to a spate of muscle injuries. After taking part in a full training session with the rest of the first team group though, Arteta has admitted that he is in with a chance of finally making his comeback.
«Yeah Thomas had a session before the last game and now he’s done two or three consecutive sessions,» he said. «He should be part of the squad on Monday.»
