The former strikers have been tempted to face each other in the ring with gloves on
Former England player and Manchester United's all-time leading scorer, Wayne Rooney, has not had an easy time in his career as a manager, with experiences at Derby County, DC United and Birmingham City, being fired from the latter two teams.
Now, Rooney is without a team and although he has said that his priority is to continue in soccer as a coach, it has been reported that there is some interest in 'Wazza' venturing into the world of boxing, with a promoter mentioning that he has had talks with the ex-footballer.
In addition, it has been said that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be presented with the possibility of being a rival for Rooney in the world of boxing in the ring.
Initially it had been mentioned that Rooney had spoken to promoter Misfits Boxing about the possibility of a fight, but now German promoter Kalle Sauerland of Wasserman Boxing Global told talkSPORT.com exclusively that he has personally spoken to the former footballer about venturing into boxing.
Although there is nothing concrete yet, when initially talking about his foray into Misfists Boxing (owned by KSI), promoter Eddie Hearn suggested that 'Wazza' would don the gloves against influencer-turned-boxer, Jake Paul.
Boxing analyst Paulie Malignaggi has also suggested that Rooney have a bout with another retired footballer, suggesting Sweden's Ibrahimovic as the Englishman's opponent.
