Mikel Arteta and Edu look set to face a significant challenge in the January transfer window to bring in any new signings. The Gunners spent big in the summer in an attempt to reinforce Arteta's squad following last season's title charge which ended prematurely, in large part due to injuries.
Declan Rice was the marquee signing with Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz also arriving at Emirates Stadium for a combined total of £200million. Folarin Balogun was the only major departure, with the Hale End graduate leaving to join Monaco for £34million, so Arsenal need to be careful they don't break FFP rules and regulations with any spending done this month.
As a result of those concerns, it's not a given that the Gunners will dip into the market this month, with Arteta suggesting it is possible that no deals are done. Injuries across the pitch, but particularly at full-back, have impacted plans with the Arsenal boss delivering his stance on signing a new player in that position.
«We are open for the transfer market but the emphasis is on making the most of what we have,» he said prior to last weekend's FA Cup clash against Liverpool. «We will work with the club to see if we have any options.» Meanwhile, football.london understands that Arsenal are on the lookout for loan deals in the January transfer window, to cover for the loss of players due to absence and injury.
Making a temporary signing may have to be the way forward, although Arsenal fans want to see a very different outcome. As per a Premier Club Fan Satisfaction Survey, conducted by Carl McMullen, out of 204 responses, signing Victor Osimhen is seen as the dream by 64% of fans. Ivan Toney follows with 26%, while Kylian Mbappe is on 10%.
